Waterproof backpack

This bag is super well-made. It is fully waterproof, with burly fabric and a roll-top closure and Velcro-fastened flap to the main compartment. The design allows you to close it with just the flap by extending the roll-top when it's not raining, allowing you to pack more stuff in it. There are two small reflective hits at the top and a large reflective patch which doubles as a pocket. The large reflective section makes this an excellent pack for cycling, easily comparable to bags costing double the price. There's also a smaller front pocket with a watertight zipper. The aforementioned front pocket has a mesh section at the bottom for drainage. I mention this because while this pocket is covered with a waterproof flap, the designers evidently thought the drain was necessary -- meaning a) some water could get in there in extreme conditions, and b) you wouldnt want to put any electronics in there if there's a chance it might rain.

Inside the roll-top main compartment is just a main compartment with no organizer pockets, laptop sleeve, or anything else. on the front there are two sets of compression straps with quick-release buckles at the side, and another QR compression strap on the front which can go either over or under the flap pocket. this gives you a lot of versatile options. There is a haul handle and two generously-padded carrying straps with a QR sternum strap. These have reflective piping and webbing to attack a pouch, light, etc. there's an adjustable waist strap with small padded wings and sectional air-mesh padding on the entire back panel (though no air channel). The roll-top closure also has two D-rings for attaching additional gear. The entire bag has an almost absurd level of functionality.

The only things this bag doesn't have is an exterior water bottle pocket, or an internal hydration sleeve. However, you could lash a water bottle to one of the compression straps or put a hydro sleev in the outer pouch pocket. Because the overall design is so well thought-out, i didn't subtract a star for this omission.

I tested this bag by giving it the shower test -- it passed. And by biking to the grocery store and loading it up with about 20 lbs of food. the weight felt evenly-distrubuted and didn't get uncomfortable. That's about the most I would recommend loading up this bag with. you could maybe go to 25 lbs but any more than that and you really need an internal frame pack.

The 35L capacity is kind of a sweet spot, in between an average capacity 25L bag and a larger 45-50L bag. You can fit a lot in here but also make it compact with the compression straps. Although designed for outdoor use, this pack is versatile and stylish enough for urban adventures and even commuting (just add a laptop case). There are plenty of other waterproof backpacks out there, but this one is one of the best in terms of form and function. it also boasts a high price/performance ratio and should last for years in typical use-case scenarios.

Mostly Awesome With One Drawback

This is mostly a well-thought out backpack. There is ample storage for any 1-2 day hike and comes in especially handy when rain is in the forecast. It truly is a dry pack. The pack includes all the necessary straps (hip, sternum, shoulder) to keep the weight distribution of the pack in the right places and off your shoulders. I live in South Florida so rain can come anytime and from anywhere so having this pack handy is a lifesaver.

My only complaint is that this pack does not include any quick access mesh storage for a phone or a water bottle. I feel all packs should have this and even some of their larger capacity backs have this built in, so why not on this day pack? I'd still recommend, but the maker should include these pockets next time around.
